The World Bank Implementation Support Mission team recently visited the Kimai Water Project in Kisii County and witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of this initiative.

Phase 1 of the project delivered a 7.2m³/hr borehole, giving the community a reliable source of clean water. Phase 2 is underway, featuring a 3km pipeline and 10 communal water points, which will soon serve over 1,000 households.

The impact is already evident. Nearby schools have reported a 20% increase in attendance, especially among girls proof that access to safe water is more than a service, it’s an opportunity. Girls now spend less time fetching water and more time learning, while families enjoy healthier, more productive days.

The World Bank team commended the county for its commitment to climate-smart investments and sustainable community development. The Kimai Water Project exemplifies how targeted FLLoCA initiatives can empower communities, improve education, and transform livelihoods.
