Introduction
In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability and fostering a greener future, our directorate successfully distributed 9,753 fruit trees to 45 learning institutions across Kisii County. This initiatives aligns with our commitments to combat climate change, promote environmental awareness, and support educational institutions in their journey towards sustainable practices.
The distribution was held on October 2023 and it saw enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and staff members of the beneficiary institutions. Each institution received a variety of fruit trees, including Mango, Avocado, Guava among others selected for their adaptability to the local climate and potential to provide both nutritional and economic benefits in the years to come.
Economic Benefit
The impacts of these fruit trees extends beyond the school gates. the knowledge and skills that students gain are taken back to their families, encouraging the planting of fruit trees at home. the local economy benefits as well with markets selling the school fruits and value added products. the entire community becomes more resilient, healthier and economically vibrant.
In this way what started as a simple act of distributing fruit trees to learning institution blossoms into a sustainable long term source of economic, Environmental and social benefits for the entire community.
