The Gesusu Milk Cooperative in Kisii County is setting a new standard for dairy production and community empowerment.
Through the FLLoCA Program, the cooperative has embraced modern, climate-smart upgrades. A renewable-energy-powered cooling system now chills milk right after collection now cutting costs, preserving freshness, extending shelf life, and reducing post-harvest losses. A 10,000-litre elevated water tank ensures a constant water supply for processing, cleaning, and daily operations, while a new ablution block has improved hygiene and comfort for members and visitors.
These improvements are doing more than upgrading infrastructure they are strengthening the cooperative, empowering local farmers, and increasing their earnings.
The World Bank Implementation Support Mission team capped off the visit by commending Kisii County for its innovative approach in partnering with cooperatives and SACCOs, highlighting it as a model for inclusive, locally-driven, climate-smart development.
