The Bokashi Manure Production Project is transforming farming in Kisii County! Farmers are turning crop residues, animal manure, and kitchen waste into nutrient-rich compost in just two weeks, boosting soil fertility and crop yields.

Before soil liming, fields had high acidity at pH 5.2. After applying targeted liming alongside Bokashi, soil pH improved to 5.8, creating healthier conditions for maize, vegetables, and bananas. Fields with Bokashi applied show stronger, more vibrant crops compared to those without it.

Thousands of farmers including women and youth groups are now producing Bokashi for their farms and for sale, creating new income opportunities and strengthening local agricultural value chains.

The World Bank Implementation Support Mission team visited the project and observed directly the difference Bokashi is making, applauding Kisii County for empowering communities through sustainable, climate-smart farming.
